Towing with a Toyota Tacoma?

Timely discussion.  After spending weeks shopping, I just purchased a Tacoma.  It replaces my 15-year old 4-Runner.  Of the vehicles I test drove, I feel the Tacoma is a good combination of reasonable tow capacity (6400 lbs.), manageable size, comfort for every-day driving, and an excellent resale history.  It isn't a full-size truck with a V-8, so I won't break any speed records; but I expect that it will tow the Rhodes nicely.

I am once again venturing into an discussion for which I am entirely
unqualified. But my understanding about towing capacity is that it depends
on much more than engine power. I can tow my boat with my lawn tractor so
power should probably the least of your concerns.

Of greater importance is whether the frame, if there is one, can handle the
stress, the transmission, so that it doesn't get destroyed, and braking.
Smaller wheels have smaller breaks and with 5000 lbs behind you, you
definitely want some stopping power. Also the weight of the vehicle is
important to avoid being dragged of the road because you are outweighed by
the trailer.
