Welcome to the Rhodes 22 Discussion Group. This group is open to everyone with an interest in the Rhodes 22 sailboat.
The Rhodes 22 Discussion Group is based on email list technology. An email list is an ancient form of communication in which an email sent to the list server is automatically re-sent to every member of the list.
This email list was created in 2002 as way for those interested the Rhodes 22 to stay in touch with each other: to ask questions and get answers; to share adventures, plans and projects; and to just chew the fat.
Anyone with an interest is welcome to view messages in the forum, whether posted recently, or in the extensive archives reaching back to the group's founding. But to join the conversation, you need to become a member. Anyone with an interest is also welcome to become a member. To join, visit the Admin page.
While mailing list technology remains at the heart of our conversations, in 2024 a web-based interface was created as an alternative to emails. You can use either format, or both.
If you do join, here are some usage guidelines:
Account Maintenance: You can maintain your account (unsubscribe, change delivery options, etc) on the same Admin page you used to join
General Behavior: No long list of specific rules: be polite, be considerate, be mostly on-topic. Failure to play nicely can result in removal from the list.
Discussion Content: Although most conversations relate directly to the Rhodes 22, off-topic messages are acceptable if not overdone. However, any discussion of political opinions is strongly discouraged.
Shameless Commerce: Using the list to facilitate the buying or selling of goods or services related to the Rhodes 22, up to and including entire boats, is entirely acceptable.
Attachments: Both the email list and the web forum allow attachments of some file types. Most image files and plain text files will be accepted, as well as PDF files. Attachments that are accepted by the email list software will be kept on our server. The attachments themselves will not be distributed to other list members. Instead, links to the attachments will be inserted into the distributed message at the very bottom of the message. Attachments that are not accepted by the email list software will simply be stripped out of the message before it is distributed.
Unfortunately, due to technical issues beyond our control, if you send email to the list from an Apple computer using the native email client, your attachments will probably be stripped out as well. Apple computer users can post messages with attachments using the web forum as an alternative
Replying: When replying to a post, you should make a point of replying at the top of the message. Also, it's a good practice to remove all but the most relevant quoted text in your reply. This keeps messages smaller, for easy reading, and makes archive searches more efficient because there is less duplicated material.
Subject Lines: Subject lines are important, especially for keeping the archives useful. If you start a subject thread, please try to make the subject line as descriptive as you can. If you reply to a message in a way that changes the subject, please change the subject line accordingly.
Thank you
