We were one of those who stored the anchor and rode in the cockpit 
(smelly Chesapeake mud being what it is.) We replaced the hatch and cowl 
with a Nicro Day/Night solar fan. Those deckplate hatches are standard 
sizes and Nicro makes hatches to fit various sizes. This helped with 
condensation.

I agree with others that your problem may just be a matter of the hatch 
needing to be rebedded. Every boat needs to have deck parts rebedded at 
some point. Some people put themselves on a regular 5-7 year rebedding 
schedule. We dragged it out a bit but most everything on the deck except 
the stanchions was rebedded at least once in the 18 years we had our Rhodes.
