Bob, I replaced my sail earlier this season. I was on land.It is a simple operation. Mast must be in a horizontal position. On the black starboard material on the mast that supports the sail, there is a spring loaded pin. Pull out on the pin, this releases the support from the hole in the mast . Just slide it toward the open end (bottom) of the mast. To make the task easier clean and lubricate the groove in the mast from its starting position to the open end. On the IMF sail the clew is layers of heavy cloth. I used this to just pull the sail out of the mast. There should be very little resistance. Going back together is just as easy, take notes on which way the mast is wound. I discovered broken parts on my sail support system and had to order the whole system from Stan. My boat is 32 years old, so it was an ouch but not totally unexpected. Cary Tolbert Radford, VA s/v WhisperSee the original archive post
