One comment.  The rudder blade does not want to be plumb or any amount 
aft of plumb, unless for sculling use or shallow water.   It should be 
pulled down as far as it will go.  No guessing needed. This pitches it 
slightly forward and under the hull for a spade rudder effect so you 
feel zero or very little rudder pressure when sailing.  Any of your 
sickest canines can sail with such a light feel tiller.   A challenge: I 
never tried having a cat take the helm.
