the mast fell.  Which way; back or sideways?  At 2/3rds up there is 
hardly any lateral force on this plate so screws are in sheer and the 
mast's down thrust would make it unlikely that the plate under the mast 
would move.  Unless the mast was not being supported as intended, from 
side forces.
