I would call Stan at the factory about a new motor. His number is on the web site. But with regard to your cutting the strap, did you try to turn the motor manually? I wondered what would happen if my electric lift didn't work -- especially if the batteries were dead -- and I looked at the motor and discovered there was a place on the end that could be turned manually.
