Hi Gary:
I am sorry if I have asked you this already but if so I can't find it in our
exchanges.

I am about to purchase furling gear and am stuck on whether to get a
flexible furler (CDI or Shaeffer Snapfurl) or the Alado. I prefer the Alado
except for the question of avoiding damage to the foil when raising or
lowering the mast. My mast raises from the front of the boat. With my old
CDI the links between the foil sections were very vulnerable to bending
while the mast was being raised or dropped. I found that the best way to
avoid damage was to tie a line to the lower end of the furling and drop it
overboard so that it would bend more gently as the mast raised. It worked
but was awkward and not fool proof.

So the question is: What is your experience handling the Alado when raising
and dropping the mast? Have you ever damaged a foil or found it awkward to
handle?
Thanks,
 Graham
