I have a 1990 Rhodes 22 that was factory rehabbed in 2016 with an electric winch to raise the outboard. The winch is suddenly moving very slowly & I think it will die soon. It is a Badland 2500 ATV winch. Does anyone have any recommendations for replacement? I assume it is bolted to the lazarette wall. Are they thru bolts? Can I remove & replace it on the water or do I need to be on the hard? Also, all the winches I see for sale come with cables on the winch wheel. Do I need to change the wheel or is it the same wheel? My current winch uses a rocker switch mounted on the lazerette wall and is very convenient. The new winches seem to come with remote controls. I heard of problems with these from Rhodies. Can I wire these units to my rocker switch? Sorry for all the questions but I thought it might save all the multiple responses.
