Hi Peter, It’s important that you prevent the boat stands from shifting. Unless you are painting on concrete, I always put plywood under the legs to prevent the stands from sinking into the soil or blacktop. The boat stands should also come equipped with chains. You should use these to secure the top of the boat stands together. As you are lifting and lowering the boat, you may find several pieces of 4x6 wood are useful to use as cribbing to support a corner while you reposition the jack. Bottom paint is toxic.
