I don't recall anyone ever posting about a conversion from a 'standard' rig to an IMF rig in the past, so I'm not surprised by the lack of response to your questions.  How many people have experience with both?  Stan probably know the answers to some of your questions, but it seems unlikely that we'll hear from him on this.

I can answer one question: my IMF main has no batten (I'm pretty sure).

So, as you sail into uncharted territory (metaphorically speaking), I would encourage you to fully document the conversion process.  If you could create a nice PDF document, it could find a place in the Document Library section.
