I have an 8hp Mercury because it has the shift on the handle and I don't have to lean over the back of the boat to shift it. I think it weighs about 90 lbs. I can get it in and out of my car with a little help. But it definitely takes 2 people to put it on and off the back of the boat. I back the boat into my slip to do this. Not an easy task with the motor lift that flops forward.

I'm interested in how you move your outboard around.

This winter I'm planning to pull the Yamaha Saildrive out of my boat and
install an outboard. I have most of the parts for the motor lift from GB.
I've done my best to search the archives and other online resources. The
consensus seems to lean toward a 8hp or 9.9hp Honda or Yamaha 4 stroke long
shaft (20"). I also want an electric start, an alternator and remote
throttle controls.

I was hoping to find an 8hp model since it's a bit lighter, but there seem
to many more 9.9hp engines out there. I was considering buying a newer,
used engine since delivery of new engines is so backed up (maybe a year or
more?).

I found a 2020 Honda 9.9hp available near me for a good price. My question
is: how do you wrestle your outboard that weighs 90 - 120 lbs? I've never
had an outboard that large so I'm wondering about just getting it out of
the car. Anybody ever rig an extension to their boom and use that as a
hoist? I used my boom to replace the diesel engine in my 30' Nimble, but
that was close to the middle of the boom, not past the end. I recall
someone saying they move their OB to a rack on the front of the trailer
every time they tow. It all sounds pretty daunting to me.
