2 questions:


  1.  Was there no wind so you could just sail the remaining 1.5 miles?   2.  Why didn’t you just clamp the trolling motor onto the rudder head, lower it all the way down, turn it 90 deg, & use the rudder to point the thrust?  You might have to kick-up the rudder blade to get it to clear the trolling motor’s prop.

... but this is what came to mind.
My Mercury outboard unexpectedly stopped a month ago while returning but still 1.5 miles away from the dock with a boatload of people. It was fine before and since.

I keep a 55# thrust trolling motor on board just in case but between people and motorboat waves there was no way I’d be able to safely swap the 2 motors. I eventually got the motor restarted but it got me to thinking. So I made this bracket for the trolling motor. It will stay attached. Fire away with better ideas.
