So many pilots/x-pilots are sailors - huh!
I got my pilots license in High school and wanted to make a career of it, but architecture stole me away. 
For both airplanes and Sailboats - “form follows function” a famous architect's  modernist chant. (Le Corbousie).
Aesthetics are most powerful left simple and ornament is unnecessary; a fussy distraction from the purity of form.
