Another consideration regarding placement would be the pop top enclosure if
you have that or might get it in the future.  My boat came with the pop top
enclosure and the compass placement does not interfere with the enclosure.
I think the prior owner had the compass installed by General Boats when the
boat was refurbished, so they probably have a standard placement for the
compass that works well.
