Todd, I never really considered building in a water tank. I use a system similar to what Graham has described. In my case I use a total of 10 1.25 gallon water jugs. Eight of these are stored under the v-berth, and 2 against the head partition under the sink. Having 2 jugs under the sink means that when one runs dry, I can just switch the pump intake tube the other jug and keep going. I use a self-priming foot pump which doesn’t mind running dry. I got the jugs from U. S. Plastic Corp (https://www.usplastic.com; item #73061). I chose the model based on how well it would utilize the space available under the v-berth. When cruising, I use about 1 jug a day, so the 10 jugs is plenty for a week-long cruise. Peter Nyberg Coventry, CT s/v Silverheels (1988/2016)See the original archive post
